All of our necklaces are hand-crocheted in Kigoma, Tanzania and come with a pouch made from traditional fabric. The women who make the necklaces choose the materials (beads, seeds, buttons, etc.) and colors they use in the necklaces in order to create unique designs that reflect their personalities. Many of the women make the necklaces from their homes, giving them the flexibility they need to continue to care for their families while still earning a living. Please ensure that the Color/Design you choose corresponds with the product shown when using the drop-down menu above.
The necklaces are a product of the vocational training center at Hope of the Nations, where women who are vulnerable to abuse and exploitation can receive vocational training along with discipleship and Bible studies, often facilitated by the students and graduates of Hope's Bible College.
By learning basic trades like sewing and jewelry making, the students of the vocational training center are able to feed and support their families and provide schooling for their children.
Tentmakers Together purchases necklaces directly from the artisans, providing economic opportunities in one of the poorest and most remote regions of Tanzania.
